Does the SR10 remain water resistant with the 12V bike-powered kit attached?  What precautions if any should one make if using the kit.

More good stuff! I am disappointed that the battery can't be changed out in the SR10 units I just got, but it sounds like they would continue to work if connected to a charger full time after the battery life is over? Is this correct? It just bugs me that something is "throw away" due to battery. Glad most stuff isn't like that, hate to have to get a new car because the battery went bad...... kidding kinda.....

I did not see where you had to "throw it away" once the battery life has been exhausted.. I would think that the same rule applies that you would have to send in the unit for battery replacement. It just is not field replaceable is my guess.

That is not stated in the manual or anywhere else. It has disposal instructions instead. I certainly hope it could be sent in for a new battery, maybe the factory rep will chime in and help us know. I checked the manual several times and looked online but ended up believing the worst. The battery section is page 16 if I remember right, and reading it certainly makes one think they are throw away. It should say they can be returned for new battery if that is the case. Please, SENA, say you can and do replace the batteries. And maybe a charge amount would be nice to know also. Thanks!

That's wonderful. What is the cost of the DIY kit? What is the battery number? Thanks for info. We made our first ride with them yesterday, they are wonderful. I could not believe how static free they are. Behind a windshield and full face helments, there was NO sound at all except our voices. These are wonderful!!! I was having to use full volume, maybe I need to move the speakers even closer to my ears? They are not touching now, but within 1/2"(13mm). They were very nice at 60 mph, really impressed us. Sorry guys, I was confusing the SR10 and the SMH10 units which is what I have. I am assuming the battery replacement for for the SMH10 is as you state above? I do certainly hope that there will be some solution for replacing the batteries, it puts a dark cloud over an otherwise great product. Question, can my units be powered by the charging 12V cigarette plug if the batteries are no good? That would be some consulation since batteries do not last forever. Most of my com gear for Goldwings and flying is easily over 10 years old, and still works fine. I expect things to last if I take care of them, and they do. Please keep us updated on the battery situation. I for one was considering getting another pair for my brother and his wife since they work so well, and we ride together alot. But hard to do not knowing if they are going to have replacement batteries or not. Two years is just the beginning of the life of the electronics, should not be the end.....  

Today I precisely placed the speakers directly at the ears, and shimmed with firm foam to the point just before contact with the ear. Actually went to contact then shaved off a thin layer of foam. Now they do not need to be wide open on the volume, they are plenty loud!!! I used hot melt glue to secure the firm foam and to reuse the velcro pads. It worked out wonderful. Gosh, these sound great now. I don't see a foam cover available for the speakers, anyone know of one that fits well??  One other thing I've  noticed, the mic wants to untwist itself, it is hard to keep it turned facing your mouth. I twist it and put the fin away from my mouth, but a little while later it needs it again. I over twisted it some and then brought it back to location, but it still wants to wind itself away from alignment. I don't like constantly twisting the boom, anyone find a fix? Or should maybe I just over twist it greatly? Don't want to damage the wires inside, but need to do something. The lower chin guard is too far away from lips to secure it there, and spacing it towards the mouth would make putting the helmet on/off difficult. I've only twisted it maybe 1/2 turn past perfect, maybe tomorrow I'll try 1 full turn to see if it will stay put....

I find the boom arm doing the untwisting act, and it will not stay where I put it, especially in a lot of wind buffeting.  I might try a piece of 10 gau solid copper wire taped all along the conduit, but I doubt that will help the un-winding.  I find the base a lot of the problem, related to the drifting away.  It's too soft and flimsy.  I might even adapt the Edsets mice hardware to it, and use the Sena element.  ??

That would be the tab mount version, altho the RCA type could be made to work, with a "trick" RCA female mount.   This Edsets mic is dynamic, so won't work, or if it did,the Sena be  way over driven.

That said, the Sena is almost totally awesome,  Just a lousy boom.

I still fight the boom. Very little wind hitting it, but it still must be handled every 30 minutes or so. I might try your idea with the copper wire. Maybe a loop with the smooth doubled end going around the mic, and I'll have to look hard at the base to see how one might secure it there.

What is the status of  the battery replacement? Anyone heard any good news? If anyone ever cuts into their unit, please let the rest of us know what battery is inside and how it is potted or whatever. It will be just a matter of time until someones' battery goes dead after the warrenty period. Thanks for info,  Woody

My latest problem with boom, the rubber base is pulling off the adhesive disc.  I don't know what what to do with that problem.  The Base is cupped, so it's basically only grabbing the disc at the edges.  Not robust, at all.   Ed-set boom, here I come.  Another 50+ dollars.

....Thanks for the response Dan ... So, what we do, just ride around town?  Besides, the hot sun makes the adhesive turn loose.   Bad design, sorry.   And, the base for boom is much too soft and flimsy.  It's about the same quality of products from the dollar store.  But, the rest of the unit is top-notch.  Just a crumby boom design.  

...  I picked up my helmet this morning to see what I could do with it, and the boom was laying on floor, the adhesive disc having turned loose again.  This time, I cut the little ridge off around perimeter  of rubber base, and cleaned with alcohol.  Then, super glued it.  We'll see how that works.   Again, thanks

And, it's not wind that makes the mic boom untwist, mine is behind a full face and a fairing. It just is the nature of this boom material, it is spiral wound and wants to return like a spring.

Mine is out in the open, and cooler air is "harder", and it is constantly requiring adjustment.  The only time it stays put, is if I keep my pipe in my mouth, and rest it on the pipe stem.  To be more clear, I'm comparing the boom to the J&M, Edsets, Chatterbox, etc.   They are much more robust.  Approx 1/4 diameter boom, and much more solid base.   Thanks for hearing me out.
